Halsey on Learning From Sydney Sweeney on ‘Americana' and Creating Her Own New Series: 'Really Cool to Be Part of a Project I Don't Face'

Halsey has been making the transition from musician to movie star in recent years — including with a breakout role in 2024's MaXXXine — but the first major project she shot is just now making its way to theaters. Americana — a modern western from writer-director Tony Tost which follows several people as their lives violently intertwine while fighting over an expensive Native American ghost shirt— was shot in 2022, premiered at SXSW in 2023 and is finally heading to this big screen this month. More from The Hollywood Reporter Trump Swoons Over Sydney Sweeney Amid Reports That She's a Republican American Eagle Responds to Sydney Sweeney Jeans Campaign Amid Controversy JD Vance Mocks Protests of Sydney Sweeney's Jeans Ad: "They Can't Help But Freak Out" 'I'd been waiting a really long time, I'd been really cautiously picky about what I was going to do for my first project for getting into this world, into this space,' Halsey told The Hollywood Reporter at the film's Los Angeles premiere on Sunday. 'Tony reached out and he was so personable and so talented and I just really connected with the script and the character. Little did I know we were going to be making it during COVID, which was a crazy experience. And from the moment I read the script until we started shooting, I got pregnant, had a whole pregnancy, gave birth to my son, had my son on set with me, and without giving anything away, it's really serendipitous to [her character] Mandy's arc in the film.' The film also stars Sydney Sweeney — who walked the carpet in her first public appearance following her American Eagle controversy — Paul Walter Hauser, Simon Rex, Eric Dane and Zahn McClarnon. It marks a reunion for Halsey and Sweeney, after the Euphoria star appeared in Halsey's 2019 music video for her song 'Graveyard.' 'We were actually hanging out a bunch during COVID, so when I got the call she was doing the movie we had like just gone hiking a few days before, so it was like, 'Oh cool, I'll see you there,'' Halsey recalled. 'It was just really great to have someone to learn from, to ask questions to — the stupid questions you don't think of. It was my first time on a movie set in a real way; just being like 'Who do I look at? Who do I listen to? What's the cool code words I don't know, the actor lingo?' So having someone to ask the stupid questions to was great.' Next up, Halsey is making another pivot and developing series Bloodlust for Amazon, serving as creator, writer and EP. The dark comedy series has also enlisted MaXXXine filmmaker Ti West to direct and executive produce. 'I started the pilot a few years ago and Amazon wanted it and they took it and now we're getting it on the road. There's not so much that I can say but it's really cool to be a part of a project that I don't face. It's quite relieving,' Halsey explained, confirming that she will not appear on screen in the show. 'Just behind the scenes, just the puppet master,' she noted, celebrating, 'I don't have to do my makeup.' Americana hits theaters Aug. 15. John Cena's hair transplant changed his life years after he was 'run out' of Hollywood

Before John Cena was a movie star, he was a WWE star, but his rise to movie stardom wasn't easy. "I was run out of the movie business in 2009 for doing bad movies where I wasn't present," Cena, 48, told People magazine. "I thought that just because I wore a golden leather belt on Monday and Friday, they'd come see whatever I'm doing. It's not true." He began his acting career with roles in movies such as "The Marine" and "12 Rounds." However, Cena didn't see success until the 2010s with roles in "Trainwreck," "Blockers" and "The Suicide Squad." His role as Peacemaker in the DC Extended Universe "changed [his life]." The 2021 movie has since been turned into a TV series. "It's a great show that's more than just action," he told the outlet. "It's a love story. It's a workplace comedy. We're the long shots, the lovable losers." As he retires from the WWE ring and moves his focus toward acting full-time, Cena made one move that he hopes will revitalize his career – a hair transplant. "A different hairstyle can identify a part that can get me more work, do the thing I love to do," he told People. WWE fans wouldn't let the wrestler hide his hair loss, which ultimately helped him make his decision. "As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light," he told the outlet. "I saw their signs that said 'The bald John Cena.' They pushed me into going to see what my options were." The attention to his receding hairline led Cena to develop a lengthy routine and get a hair transplant. "I now have a routine: red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner – and I also got a hair transplant last November," he revealed. "I hate the fact that if there wasn't so much shame around it, I'd have gotten it done 10 years ago. I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness." "They don't do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another," Cena explained. He gets "fired up" about the topic because it "completely changed the course" of his life. "If somebody's going to sweat me for that, I don't think there's any shame in that." Cena's transition from the WWE to Hollywood wasn't easy. Last year, Cena gave advice to NFL star Travis Kelce, who has taken on some acting roles on top of playing for three-time Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs. "I would inspire him to reflect on his journey," Cena said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "He didn't become a Super Bowl champion in a year… This is the one misconception that a lot of people have... 'You were born for this.' I was not. I worked very hard and suffered a lot of setbacks and looked ridiculous and had a lot of failures. But I have a lot of people supporting me, and I just never gave up." Cena joined the "Fast and Furious" franchise in 2021, playing Vin Diesel's character's brother in "Fast 9: The Fast Saga" and "Fast X." He also made a cameo in "Barbie" in 2023, and starred in the Hulu original movies "Vacation Friends" and "Vacation Friends 2." He announced his retirement from the WWE in July 2024. Cena began his WWE career in 2002 on "Smackdown!" as "The Prototype," eventually transforming into his rapper persona, the "Doctor of Thuganomics." Throughout his career, Cena has won a record-breaking 17 WWE world championships. "I've always said to the audience that WWE is my home and I love it," Cena told reporters in July 2024. "Just because I physically feel I'm at my end, doesn't mean I need to distance myself from something I love."

Jay Kelly FIRST LOOK: George Clooney stars as Hollywood actor who 'always plays himself' in new Netflix comedy - days after the Oscar winner furiously hit back at claims he lacked versatility

George Clooney takes on the role of a movie star who 'always plays himself' Netflix 's new comedy drama Jay Kelly - days after he furiously hit back at claims that he himself lacked onscreen versatility. In the first trailer for the film the Oscar winner, 64, is seen questioning his life choices, despite being fawned over by fans and staff. On a trip to an Italian film festival in his honour, joined by his manager played by Adam Sandler, he's hailed as the 'hero of cinema' before being brutally asked about always playing himself. To which he snaps back: 'You know how difficult it is to be yourself? You try it'. George's character is seen continually reminding himself that he is 'Jay Kelly' as he and his pal embark on a whirlwind trip through Europe as it appears the glamour of showbiz has lost its appeal. The star-studded cast also features fellow Oscar winners Laura Dern, Jim Broadbent as well as Isla Fisher, Billy Crudup and Barbie director Greta Gerwig. The movie is directed by Greta's husband and fellow Barbie scribe Noah Baumbach, who wrote the script alongside British actress Emily Mortimer. The offical synopsis reads: 'Two middle-aged friends rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic weekend reunion, facing hilarious mishaps and heartfelt moments that force them to finally grow up'. The actor has had an illustrious career spanning 40 years, in which he's bagged an Academy Award for his role in Syriana in addition to a wealth of other accolades. But earlier this week during a recent interview with Variety, the Ocean's 11 star was asked about the doubts about his range as an actor, with George furiously snapping back: 'Do people say that I only play myself? I don't give a sh*t.' He went on: 'There aren't that many guys in my age group that are allowed to do both broad comedies like O Brother [Where Art Though?] and then do Michael Clayton or Syriana. So if that means I'm playing myself all the time, I don't give a sh*t.' Echoing a quote from his character in upcoming project Jay Kelly, he added: Have you ever tried playing yourself? It's hard to do.' The Hollywood hunk continued: 'I've been the beneficiary of having my career not be massively successful in lots of different directions. I didn't really get successful, in the kind of success that can be blinding, until I was 33 years old [when ER began]. I'd been working for 12 years at that point. I had a real understanding of how fleeting all of it is and how little it has to do with you, quite honestly.' It comes after back in March, George quietly revealed the real reason he has quit starring in romantic comedies for good. The film star used to be one of the most sought after romantic comedy stars, but in recent years he has largely stepped away from the once-popular genre. George opened up about his changing career in an interview with 60 Minutes that that focused on his Broadway debut in Good Night, And Good Luck, a play adapted from the Oscar-nominated 2005 film that he directed, co-wrote and co-starred in. According to the A-list star, he has simply aged into a new phase of his career that doesn't align with most youth-focused rom-coms. 'Look, I'm 63 years old, I'm not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men,' he admitted. 'That's not my job,' he continued, before declaring, 'I'm not doing romantic films anymore.' Part of what has made Clooney so popular — which often translates to box-office success — is that he's charming enough to make non-romantic comedies feel as if they are rom-coms. Although his blockbuster heist comedy thriller Ocean's 11 isn't a traditional romantic comedy, the tension and humor that he brought to it with his costar Julia Roberts made every scene that they shared feel like a rom-com. One of George's most acclaimed films in the genre was an earlier collaboration with his Ocean's series director Steven Soderbergh on Out Of Sight. Even though that film had elements of a crime comedy and a thriller, his burgeoning on-screen romance with Jennifer Lopez comfortably sits with the best romantic comedies. George also worked with the Coen brothers on the screwball comedy Intolerable Cruelty with costar Catherine Zeta-Jones, but his Cary Grant–like charm and screen presence means that even some of his more traditional romantic dramas get just enough comedy to feel like rom-coms. His last official rom-com to date was the 2022 box-office success Ticket To Paradise, which grossed nearly $169 million against a $60 million budget. He and Julia Roberts reunited for the film, in which they play divorced parents who team up to put a stop to their daughter's destination wedding in Bali. Clooney also notes in his 60 Minutes interview that his life has changed in other ways, as he's now a married man with children, rather than one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors, as he was at the height of his commercial potential.

Their sighting comes two months after she was spotted 'kissing' a mystery man in London, however it is unclear if that was Danny. The couple were joined by their daughter Rani Rose, six, as well as Kate's son Bingham, 13, from her previous relationship with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. And it has been a sun-soaked summer for Kate so far after she was seen earlier this week holidaying in Ibiza with pal Dakota Johnson. Dakota made sure to show ex Chris Martin exactly what he's missing as she flaunted her flawless physique aboard a luxury yacht in the celeb-packed hotspot. The duo, who first got together in 2017, and got engaged years later, finally pulled the plug in June. Dakota slipped into a skimpy white two-piece while Oscar nominee Kate turned heads in a bright yellow bikini. The jaw-dropping bikini parade came after Dakota and Kate enjoyed an al fresco dinner at Rome's iconic Pierluigi restaurant—where they got a sweet surprise. Ricky Martin, 53, happened to be dining nearby and casually walked over to say hello to the Johnson-Hudson crew. The Livin' La Vida Loca singer pulled up a chair and joined the group, chatting and laughing with Dakota, Kate, and their friends. The trio shared hugs and animated conversation, soaking up the gorgeous weather and the enchanting Roman atmosphere. Kate also shares son Ryder, 21, with her ex-husband Chris Robinson, who she was married to from 2000 until 2006, before their divorce was finalised in 2007. Kate and Danny have been engaged for three years after he proposed to her just ahead of their five-year dating anniversary. The pair had been close friends for many years before meeting through Fujikawa's stepsisters. Kate previously revealed she finds the 'feeling of failure' the hardest part about walking away from a relationship as she opened up about her past romances. Appearing on Elizabeth Day's podcast How To Fail, the American actress spoke candidly about how hard she has found it in the past to let go of a relationship as she admitted her therapist told her she had to stop dating men. The star admitted: 'The hardest part about walking away from relationships is the feeling of failure. One hundred percent. 'So for me, that was the hardest thing, it's letting go of the fact that it feels like a failure, or I couldn't make something work, or I couldn't fix something. 'I think sometimes it's like you're trying to fit a square peg in the round hole and it's just never going to happen.' Explaining how she has grown to realise that sometimes people are just not meant to be she added: 'Then you realise as it heals, "Oh, this isn't the failure, this was exactly what needed to happen." 'Because if you look back and you're like, "uh oh, what did I do? Why couldn't I do that? Why couldn't I give that person what they needed?" Then you have to do some real reflecting and really go figure out what that is.' Revealing her therapist advised her to stop dating men for a year prior to meeting Danny, she admitted by the end she 'couldn't care less about who was texting me.' Kate went a year without men as she explained: 'I took boys out of the equation and had to just go through this process of feeling very uncomfortable with not having any connection to anything that could ignite my dopamine, my flirtatious.' Using the time she was single to work on herself, she admitted: 'Then it was like I hit something, I hit this core of an issue for myself. I had [an] almost like childhood cry and it was like a weight had been lifted off of me and honestly, from that point on, I couldn't care less about who was texting me. 'My life became so happy alone. I felt very connected to what I wanted to do, my daily routine with my kids, my cozy time. 'I didn't care about putting anything on and so when then I went back into the dating world, my relationship to dating completely changed.'
